Description |
Wharnley Burn is a 14th Century Farmhouse situated on the A68 in the beautiful Derwent valley, on the border of County Durham and Northumberland.
We are an ideal touring centre for historic Durham, Corbridge, Hexham, Gateshead, Newcastle and Beamish Musem, as well as travelling to and from Scotland.
For those wanting a more energetic holiday the area abounds in beautiful walks in the North Pennines, sailing, canoeing and bird watching on the Derwent Reservoir, and golfing at Slaley Hall, all are within easy reach. We are also close to the C2C cycle route.
We are a smallholding of about 15 acres with a cottage garden to relax in. We keep Ponies, Goats, Geese, Ducks and Chickens, as well as Cats and we breed Border Collie Dogs.
Our old farmhouse is 600 years old and is the oldest dwelling house in North West Durham. It has great charm and allows you to step back in time to the days of low beamed ceilings and very low doorways. However we do have many 21st Century comforts, including full central heating and wood burning stoves.
Wharnley Burn was once the home of a local Highwayman, by the name of Thomas Raw. |
