B&B Info - General information
To help you find the right type of B&B accommodation for you,
we have packed this page with lots of useful information including
booking, facility and visit information.
Please note that the content provided on these pages is general
advice, the specific rules at each B&B and Guest House may vary,
if you have specific requirements or needs you should clarify these
at the time of booking.
Booking information
Always book ahead
B&B's and Guest Houses are not impersonal hotels. They generally
have a a smaller number of rooms which can get booked very quickly.
So do not leave it too late to book particularly in July and August
which are notoriously busy months.
Christmas opening
Most B&B's and Guest houses are closed over the Christmas period.
However, there are a few that do special "all in" Christmas
breaks - these must be booked well in advance.
Particularly over Christmas you should not expect to find accommodation
if you have not booked. Please note that public transport is limited
in the UK over the Christmas period (Christmas Day and Boxing Day).
Family welcome
Many B&B's have family rooms particularly for young families.
Special rates for children may be available. Some homes are more
suitable for children than others so please check out the Featured
B&B pages for more information. If a cot or highchair is needed
please ask at the time of booking.
Cancellation
Should you need to cancel your B&B booking please try and give
as much notice as possible. The B&B owner may be able to re
let the room and therefore may be more prepared to return your deposit.
However, please remember that a booking is a contract under English
law, and if you cancel you may lose your deposit or whole payment.
Each B&B and Guest House has its own cancellation policy - if
this is a concern please ask for further details when booking.
B&B facilities
Bathroom facilities
Guest houses and B&B bathroom facilities are
either shared, en suite or private - this information can be found
in the B&B featured pages.
- En suite facilities means a bath/shower room with access directly from the bedroom.
- Private facilities means a bath/shower room exclusively for the use of one bedroom but located on the landing nearby.
- Shared facilities means the bath/shower room will be shared with other guests and (very occasionally) with the B&B owner.
You should specify your preferred option at the time of booking.
Guest lounge and/or sitting room
Many B&B's and Guest Houses have guest lounges, sitting rooms
for guests or you may even be invited to join the family for the
evening. However, where a sitting room is not provided there may
be a television and comfortable chairs in your bedroom.
Drink facilities, including alcoholic
Tea or coffee making facilities are provided in most B&B bedrooms.
If this is not available the B&B will be pleased to provide
tea or coffee on request.
Some B&B's and Guest Houses have residential licence's to sell
alcohol. Those that don't will be happy to recommend quality local
establishments. In addition most B&B's without a licence are
happy to permit guests to bring their own wine to have with meals
(please ask the permission of the B&B Owner).
Evening meals
Availability of evening meals will vary by each B&B. However,
if the B&B selected does not provide evening meals (you can
check at the time of booking) they will be happy to recommend you
many of local restaurants or pubs.
Vehicle parking
This will vary by B&B. B&B's in towns and city centres have
less parking rights so if off street parking is required you should
ask when booking.
Smoking policies
It is now common for smoking to be restricted or not permitted at all in B&B's
and Guest Houses. Please check on booking if you will require a smoking room.
Pet allergies
Most B&B and
Guest Houses are family homes and as such many will have pets. If you suffer from
any pet allergies please make sure at the time of booking that the B&B will
be suitable for you.
Taking your own pet
If you wish to take a pet with you on your stay,
you should confirm that it is essential to confirm this at the time
of booking.
On your visit
Arrival
It is normally assumed that guest will arrive between 1700 and 1900
however it is best to advise of the your intended arrival time when
booking. If you are delayed on the day of arrival please telephone
and advise to avoid any danger of the room being re let.
Departure
In general you would be expected to leave on the day of departure
time after breakfast and before 10.30am - although the times may
vary by B&B. If you need to stay longer on the day of departure
you should ask whether it is possible.
Pricing
The prices
shown on this site are PER PERSON and are based on two people sharing a double
or twin room per night. Please note that the rates include all taxes and, unless
otherwise stated, full cooked breakfast.
Payment
B&B's and Guest Houses will happily accept cash and cheques
(with bank guarantee card). However, please note that only a few
have credit card facilities. Please check when booking.
Dissatisfaction
In the unlikely event that you are unhappy with your B&B or
Guest House you should discuss the matter immediately with the B&B
Owner at the time. It is always better to give the host a chance
to put things right than complain after the event.
MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR VISIT
You can make sure you make the most of your time in the area by
asking your B&B Owner for help. You will find that most will
have lots of details of local attractions and places of interest
to help you enjoy your stay - you will also find many ideas and
suggestions on this site. Many B&B's will offer extra services
so please ask.
